In the 15th century, thanks to the Dominican, Blessed Alanus a la Roche, the rosary began to be prayed in the form we know today. However, the meditations of the rosary included three groups of mysteries: joyful, sorrowful and glorious. The addition of the luminous mysteries came during the pontificate of John Paul II. In 2002, the Holy Father saw fit to include events hitherto overlooked in the prayer of the Rosary, despite their momentous significance.
